The Khajrana Ganesh Temple, Indore

The Khajrana Ganesh Temple is a very famous and revered temple located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Though the mainly the temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesh whose idol is located in the inner sanctum of the temple, the temple complex also has several smaller shrines dedicated to various other Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The devotees who visit the temple and worship Lord Ganesh have a lot of faith in the temple and the blessing of the Lord. It is believed that the mighty Lord Ganesh fulfills the wishes made by his devotees at this temple.

Devi Ahilyabai Holkar of the Holkar dynasty of Indore established the temple. It is believed that the idol of Lord Ganesh placed in the sanctum is an ancient and mystical idol. According to a few historians, in order to safe guard the idol from Aurangzeb and his army, it was hidden in a well. Later on it was taken out of the well in 1735, and Devi Ahilyabai built the Khajrana Temple. The temple is currently in the care of the government of Indore and the Bhatt family, the family of the head Priest of the temple, manages it.

The temple and the temple complex have greatly developed over the past few years. The temple complex is clean and peaceful; it is always overflowing with spiritual vibes and it has a divine atmosphere. The temple structure is based on the common architectural style of Hindu Temples and it is beautiful. The ‘Garbhagriha’ or the inner sanctum is a remarkable, the gates and upper walls of the sanctum are covered with Silver and the carvings on them depict various festivals and festivities. The idol is beautifully sculpted from a solid once piece rock and is always adorned with various decorations and ornaments and floral garlands. The eyes of the deity are made of diamonds, and view of the idol and the inner sanctum of the Ganesh temple is a sight to behold.

The main festival celebrated in the temple premises is the Ganesh Chathurthi, which is celebrated in a grand manner annually in the month of August or September. Also the temple witnesses a huge number of devotees on every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, along with some other festivals and public holidays. This temple of Lord Ganesh is not just famous in India, but also in abroad for is divinity and mystical powers. And it is one of the most visited temples because of its history and religious beliefs attached to it and all the devotees who visit the temple have a lot of faith in the temple and Lord Ganesh. The temple has developed from a small shrine to a huge temple and is the most revered temple in the city.
